9 days post-op for RNY.

Well, I'm new to this and just have to say that 9 days post-op with 20 pounds lost is a good feeling
and I look forward to it getting better.  The pain is soooo much better now that the drain and staples are out but it still burns and "pulls" where the drain was.  Granted the drain was just removed yesterday but is this normal?  It was a treat yesterday when I was told that I could try cottage cheese because it was delicious. I even had a tiny portion of a cheeseburger, well chewed of course, and some plain mashed potatoes.  I didn;t have any pain or dumping syndrome or anything.  I just don't want to go to fast with my foods.  Anyone else have this experience????

Welcome to the loser's side!

The pain and pulling around the drain site sound very normal.  What does the doctor say?

The cottage cheese sounds good, but as long as you are following your doctor's orders, things should be fine.  I would think cheeseburgers could wait a little longer......but each doctor is different.
My doctor had us on pureed for 4-6 weeks after surgery, but we go to leave the hospital on pureed.  I even had to puree my cottage cheese.  The pouch is still healing and you want to treat it very carefully, like a new baby's stomach.

20 pounds in 9 days sounds pretty darn good!

Follow the rules and remember to take it slow.  You just had major surgery and your body needs to recover.

Tell someone that you love them!

Thanks for your response,
I guess I'm just a bit anxious about eating and the burger was cooked soo tender and juicy.  My doc did give me the go-ahead on trying more pureed-type foods.
As far as the "pulling" sensation from the drain site, I didn't have the problem until after I left the doctors office.  I probably should call and ask the nurse about this but I figure that it should get better as time goes by.  I will call to make sure. Thanks.

Your font size is kind of hard to read as it almost blends together with the line above.

It is normal what you are going through with the discomfort. It will heal eventually.

Ummmm, loose the cheeseburger and stick with the other soft foods you should be eating right now. It is a misconception that early outs when first eating again will automatically have dumping syndrome - not true. Besides, with what you ate (the foods you mentioned) unless the cheeseburger was extremely greasy you would not have dumping syndrome.

Welcome to the looser's bench.

Thanks Christine,

Hopefully this font is better.  I just can read the larger text better but it did run together.
I know the cheeseburger was pushing it but it was just a very small piece and tasted sooo good.  I was given the go-ahead for the pureed food and got excited.  When my kids wanted to cook on the grill and make burgers, I didn;t think a tiny piece would harm as long as I follow the rules and be sure things are pureed down.  I am usually pretty cautious.
It does feel good to be on the loser's benchBea

Okay, you will be able to have a cheeseburger again eventually BUT now is not the correct time and this is not a smart choice. You have a baby tummy and you need to feed it the proper food. Would you give a new born a bite of a cheeseburger? That is exactly what you have is a new born tummy. You need to practice restraint for now and stay on your program that you were given from the Kane Center.
